Coconut & Ego

Coconut Smashing

In Indian belief, the coconut fruit is a representation of the ego, i.e. it is a symbol of an individual's ego. When a person's ego is very big, they will not bow down in front of anyone. And to pray to god means to break this ego and there is no better representation than smashing a coconut at god's feet. Some religion in India breaking a coconut is symbolic of overcoming one's ego and surrendering themselves to the God.

Agriculture after Independence

Vinobha Bhave and Land Donation Movement

From Indian history after independence...

"Vinoba started out on his extraordinary bhoodan (Land Gift) movement. Over a period of twenty years, Vinoba walked the length and breath of India, persuading landlords to give to their poor neighbors a total of over four million acres of land (aprox. size of Indian state Nagaland)".

During those time farmers were asked to do 'rishi kheti’ (agriculture of the sages). Natural farming without disturbing the soil.

"The rishis looked upon the soil as a ‘mother’. Ploughing was forbidden, for many of them believed that the plough would damage the soil and turn it into sand.

The rishis considered fruit, tubers and milk the most appropriate diet for humans. Rice, barley and millet were grown in small quantities, and used as offerings to the sacrificial fire. Leftovers were considered consecrated food – prasad – and eaten as such."

How Fast Do Earthworms Travel?

If you’ve ever watched a worm wriggle around in the soil, you’ll notice that no matter how aggressive they move, they don’t travel as fast as a spider. The speed at which earthworms travel depends on the size of the earthworm.

A small earthworm travels at a rate of around 27 feet per hour (0.2 centimeters per second).

A medium sized worm can cover 185 feet in one hour or 1.5 centimeters per second.

And large earthworms can make their way across 240 feet of earth in one hour.

Filmy

During an appearance on EW Radio Spotlight, Reynolds confessed that the little ones were scared shitless whenever he was in full Wade Wilson mode and they visited the set.
When I’m in the scar makeup, that’s hard for my kids because they were on set a lot. I leave the house in the morning and I’d be ‘Dad’ and then by lunch it looked like I fell asleep on a stove.
In fact, Inez had a particularly severe reaction to glimpsing her usually-handsome father

In fact, Reynolds admits that the experience will probably haunt the toddler for a long time to come.
My 1-year-old daughter would just sob, I mean for hours after seeing me. It’s torture because you can’t rip it off in the moment and be like, ‘No, no, no! See I’m under here,’ [and] undo four hours of prosthetic makeup work.
Safe to say that poor innocent Inez is probably carrying similar scars herself now, only the deep-seated emotional ones.

Criquet - 1478 First Recorded Cricket Match

French hamlet claims to be site of the first recorded cricket match

In 1478, at the village of Liettres in northern France, a young man called Estiavannet came across a group of disagreeable people playing an unusual game. It involved “boules” or balls and a wooden post or “criquet”.

According to a letter of grievance to the king, which survives in the French national archives, an argument broke out. One of the players said: “Why are you staring at our ball game?” There was violence. Someone was killed.

This may be the first mention anywhere of the game of cricket, almost a century before the first written record of the game in England (although there are also suggestions that an early form of the game might have been mentioned in 1300).

The village of Liettres in French Flanders now stage an “international cricket tournament”.

The Liettres Challenge 1478 is an international cricket competition held every year at the end of September in the municipality of Liettres and celebrating the world's oldest witness of cricket authenticated in a letter of complaint addressed to King Louis XI who mentions a death during a match on October 25, 1478 in the Castle Park of Liettres.

The tournament brings together the 3 countries concerned by the birth of Cricket France (French Flanders), Belgium (Belgian Flanders) and England, country of cricket.

Triumph of Labour

The Triumph of Labour,
also known as the Labour statue, is a statue at the Marina Beach, Chennai, India. Erected at the northern end of the beach at the Anna Square opposite University of Madras, it is an important landmark of Chennai. The statue shows four men toiling to move a rock, depicting the hard work of the labouring class. It bears a semblance to the famed World War II photograph of the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima by the American Marines. It was sculpted by Debi Prasad Roy Chowdhury

Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima
